Fayette County will participate in the statewide Tornado Drill this Wednesday, February 3, by testing the weather sirens throughout the County (including Peachtree City) at approximately 9:10 a.m.  If severe weather threatens on February 3rd the test date will be moved to Friday, February 5 at the same time.  Please do NOT call 911.
 

This test will involve sounding all 23 sirens throughout the county to test their capabilities in anticipation of severe weather season that is from February through July.

 

 

Some notable statistics regarding recent tornadoes in Georgia: 

2007: 21 tornadoes strike in worst outbreak of tornadoes in Georgia’s history.  Nine dead, Sumter Regional Hospital destroyed, Presidential disaster declared for 15 counties
 

2008:  Mother's Day - At least 20 tornadoes touched down on May 11, including a rare EF-4 tornado, only the ninth to strike Georgia since 1950.  Four people killed, Georgia received federal disaster declaration for 14 counties.
